  • Mercure Hotel, part of Mercure Brand operated by Accor Hotels, is perfectly placed for exploring Merseyside and the north-west - or enjoying a day at the races. Located exactly halfway between Liverpool and Manchester, the hotel is just a mile from the famous Haydock Park racecourse. Local attractions include stately homes, the region's industrial heritage, and Britain's biggest designer outlet.
  • Stayed here on business with my team. Looked after us with plenty of food and drinks. Very flexible with my requests re breakfast/lunch etc. Friendly staff who work hard. Close in an evening to good restaurants Would defo use again.
  • We abandoned our usual Premier Inn as this nearby hotel has air conditioning and weather forecast correctly predicted very hot. Arrived at 8.30pm, room thermostat showed 24 degrees so turned down air con to 16 but didn't have an effect. At 10pm found that the kettle wasn't working, phoned reception and an old plastic replacement was brought up for the defunct stainless steel one. The next day I found that the safety certificate for the replacement expired 9 months earlier! When the kettle was replaced I asked if the air conditioning was working properly. The young man went downstairs to check and came back to tell me the main control downstairs was set to heating rather than cooling, it was changed and the air con worked. The TV and control was next to useless. On switching on the picture was washed out and over bright - could reset using the on screen menu but settings were not saved as on switching off and on again it reverted to a washed out picture. The programme guide didn't work, nor the channel buttons except BBC1. On moving through channels with the + button a number were missing and channels appeared randomly, using the - button did not return to a previous channel. Only way to get back to BBC1 was to switch off and on again and reset the picture! Reported this to Reception and the 2 people there said it would be looked at. Returned in the evening and no different, as we were on a 2 night stay it wasn't worth complaining. We also found our bath sheets had been replaced with bath towels which had seen better days. The bathroom was in need of an update and is the basis for my cleanliness score. There was black mould on the shower end tiles and along the side of the bath as well as the shower screen which was quite thick. There was also grime around the bath tap. On leaving we were told to 'have a nice day' rather than be asked about our stay. The room was a good size but poorly lit, all in all the extra cost compared to a Premier Inn is not justified.…
  • Great hotel which we stayed in when going to watch rugby. Lovely facilities but a bit near the motorway. Good breakfast and reasonably priced. Recommended! A taxi ride into the middle of St Helens was around £13 so good location! The pool and spa were very nice and the staff excellent. Thank you for a great stay!…
  • I came to the hotel for afternoon tea with my friend. We sat in the conservatory which was lovely and bright over looking the gardens. The staff were pleasant and nothing was too much for them. Thanks David and Andrea. The afternoon tea was lovely and fresh so I asked Andrea who had made this so I could put a thank you to them so said his name was Martin so thanks to him we will be back again soon…
  • People were lovely and friendly and provided excellent service. The food was great, full breakfast was a real treat. Room was lovely and clean. Reasonable value for money and in a convenient spot for Haydock. Met colleagues in reception and had good table service with good coffee. …

  • The hotel location for work was great the breakfast was very good and the staff were wonderful my room was very comfortable and very clean I did have to move room due to the road but if I had not been working so early the noise would not of bothered me overall I was very happy with the hotel and would certainly recommend it …
  • I stayed here this week, I arrived late and was given room 222 which overlooked the East Lancs Rd and the window lock was broken and the noise of passing vehicles was very evident, I returned to reception and a very helpful young lady offered me a twin in the back of the hotel room 301, in the morning I had to be up early and entered the shower where the things went wrong, the shower gel holder was not attached to the glass wall and as soon as I tried to use it it fell onto my foot causing a laceration which on leaving I reported to reception and leaving the carrier with them. A while late the GM rang me and I explained twice what had happened and was then asked "so could you explain what happened" I hung up!! Would I stay again , not a chance.…
  • Disappointed that there was no air conditioning and windows only opened up a crack so it was very warm in room. Also, the hotel is next to a busy and loud highway which made it difficult to sleep. Room was very average and basic.
  • Good location and a reasonable price for this type of hotel in the area. Room was spacious and a comfortable bed with tea and coffee making in the room but a couple of the electric plugs did not work but not a big issue. No air con in room and room a bit warm as window only opens a small way. Some slight noise from the road outside but not a big problem. Price included free parking and good breakfast buffet. Hotel had a bar which has a £5 minimum spend if using card. The restaurant serves food in the evening but I used the pub two minutes walk from the hotel. The pub was very good with plenty of choice from the menu and a daily carvery plus some massive deserts all available as take away also. Overall a good hotel to stay.…
  • Nice stylish rooms to have a good nights sleep. Only feedback on the rooms would be it was rather hot with no temperate adjustment and the soap dispenser in the bathroom just kept oozing out all over the side after you used it. Disappointed in the breakfast, was confusing how to check in firstly and then after finding where the plates were - not near the cooked breakfast, I started to put some food on my plate and then decided I couldn’t stomach it, there was only beans, scrambled egg (both overcooked and not appetising) sausages and bacon- as a vegetarian and normally used to the premier inn breakfasts this really wasnt on par at all. I had a croissant in the end, nice but they were the part baked ones and the middle was still doughy and not really cooked. In all would recommend as somewhere to stay but hopefully there will be improvement on the breakfast in the future as this would really make a difference. …
